Glenn County Host Children’s Memorial Day Flag Raising Event

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Glenn County residents are invited to attend a statewide raising of the Childrens Memorial Day Flag to spread awareness about Child Abuse Prevention. The event will be held Friday April 28, 2023 at 10 AM at our Children System of Care Building located at 604 E. Walker St in Orland, CA.

The Children’s Memorial Day was established by the California Assembly in April 1997, formally declaring the fourth Friday in April as a Statewide annual observance day. On the fourth Friday in April every year, communities unite to support efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The Children’s Memorial Day Flag depicts blue paper-doll-like figures holding hands against a red background, with a white chalk outline of a missing child in the center. We fly it in remembrance of the thousands of children whose lives have been lost each year due to child abuse and neglect.

Thank you for joining us as we close Child Abuse Prevention Month in Glenn County with the Children’s Memorial Day Flag Event. We will observe a moment of silence and reflection to honor the young Californian lives lost to violence. The Children’s Memorial Day Flag will be flown statewide in their memory.
